Is your beautiful and expensive matric dance dress hanging in your cupboard and gathering dust?
Why not donate it to a less fortunate matric pupil to wear, so that she too can enjoy one of the most magical nights in a girl’s life.
The 10 caring individuals who make up the Mothers Who Care group at Kuswag Skool started such an initiative.
“Each term we focus on a project to help each grade. We need to help the matrics, as not all can afford the expenses related to their matric dance,” said the group’s Sandra van der Merwe.
“Last year we helped a few girls with their make-up and hair, and this year we decided to start earlier, so that we can help some with dreses as well.”
At a cost of R450 for the ticket alone, a matric dance nowadays can run into quite a large expense.
“We are very fortuanate we have a lot of caring mothers at the school who are willing to help,” said Sandra.
Already three magnificent dresses have been donated to the cause and one of the mothers has offered to make alterations free of charge.
“We ask all girls to donate their dresses. We will also be very happy if the public wants to help us with cash donations to purchase tickets for those pupils who cannot afford them.”
Any hairdressers or beauticians who would like to donate their services to the cause can contact Sonja Nell on 079-760-6889.
The group also hopes to have a deportment class and tea party for its recipients ahead of the dance in August.
