Angler saves holidaymaker from drowning

Paramedics take man to hospital.

A MAN nearly drowned while swimming at Amanzimtoti beach on Thursday, 17 March.

At about 6.15pm Netcare 911 paramedics were called out to help after a man was pulled from the water in front of Strandburg flats.

According to Netcare 911’s Chris Botha, reports indicate that holidaymakers from Johannesburg had gone for a swim when one of the men was caught in a rip current.

“A fisherman walking past swam out and pulled the man back to the beach. When paramedics arrived they found bystanders treating the victim who suffered severe near-drowning symptoms.

Paramedics stabilised the man at the scene before they transported him to an Umlazi hospital,” said Botha.
