A man was shot in the hand after trying to rob and assault a Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) officer on Saturday, 26 March.
According to CCPO committee member, George Snodey, a white Honda Ballade with four occupants was driving in a reckless manner in Entombeni Drive, almost causing an accident with a Blue Security/CCPO response member.
“He turned and followed the vehicle and confronted them in front of the old KFC in the CBD,” said Snodey. “The occupants started swearing and behaving aggressively towards him, so he decided to drive off.”
The response officer parked in the parking lot outside the old Kingsway Cafe and tried to check the vehicle, but the Honda followed him into the same parking lot. Three occupants climbed out and rushed at the officer while he was still sitting in his vehicle.
“One of the men tried to grab his firearm, but he fired three shots, hitting one man in the hand. The other three then climbed back into their vehicle and sped off.”
A case of attempted robbery will be investigated by the police. No arrests have been made and the response officer was not injured.
