Pedestrian dies after being struck by car on N2

Paramedics found the man lying in the centre median

A PEDESTRIAN died after being knocked by a vehicle on the N2 between Winklespruit and Doonside on Monday evening, 11 July.

“We received a call from a private ambulance service for advanced life support assistance at about 5.20pm,” said Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha.

Reports from the scene indicate a man ran across the northbound lane of the N2 when he was hit by a bakkie. “Paramedics found the man lying in the centre median with life-threatening injuries,” said Botha.

Emergency personnel stabilised him at the scene. He was sedated and placed on a ventilator, before he was transported to a hospital in Umlazi.

Despite the paramedics’ efforts, the man later died in hospital.
