THE Amanzimtoti base of the SAPS’ KZN forensic science laboratory office was flooded after an airconditioning related water pipe burst overnight last night (Thursday, 2 March).

The SAPS forensics lab occupies the two upper levels of a three storey building on Kingsway, which was drenched through all levels when the pipe burst. Water damage is suspected to have affected technical equipment and files.
Forensic ballistic testing is undertaken within the lab, which is home to high-quality technical equipment. It is understood the forensics lab has been sited in the Kingsway building for at least 15 years.
