Damaged sewer pipe replaced following river spill

The main sewer is now secured.

Replacement of a damaged wastewater pipe near the Logie Drive and Bernadotte Street intersection was completed during Tuesday night, 28 March.

Damage to the 400mm main trunk sewer between Commercial Street and the pump station in Kuswag Lane had resulted in a sewer spill into the stormwater system and subsequently into the Amanzimtoti River.

“There was an intervention to repair the line but the casing was broken and the contractor managed to repair it on Tuesday night. The main sewer is now secured, which has eliminated the sewer spill into the river,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.
