Amanzimtoti children’s back to school trip ends in crash

SOME 23 children were injured when the taxi they were travelling in crashed into a ditch off Amanzimtoti’s Longacres Road.
Paramedics discovered the moderately injured children, who were aged between five and nine, and transported them to various hospitals for further treatment.
ER24 paramedics responded, along with various other services, to find the taxi parked in a ditch on the side of the road. Numerous children were found either seated in the vehicle or found walking around.
“The driver later told paramedics that the brakes had apparently failed, causing him to lose control of the taxi and crash into the ditch,” said ER24’s Russel Meiring.
Police are on the scene conducting further investigations.
