33 day project proves there’s unity in this community

Various projects have been highlighted to assist some of the local non-profit organisations (NPO).

THE CommUnity Project, which aims to ideally tackle 33 projects in 33 days, has received great support since the initiative kicked off on Mandela Day, 18 July.

The countdown isn’t far off from the newly established NPO’s target.

For a month, starting from Mandela Day on 18 July to 19 August various projects have been highlighted to assist some of the local non-profit organisations (NPO).

A group of local like-minded people mobilised the Amanzimtoti community to assist 10 identified charities and NPOs with essential items needed in the everyday running of their organisations.

“We have had amazing progress, such as when we had a fun day for the children at Mother of Peace,” said Liana van der Linde. “Jumping castles, bubble machines, popcorn machines, candyfloss machines and sweet packs saw the children with bright eyes and smiles on their faces. The miraculous caretakers were gifted with packages to thank them for the wonderful work they are doing at Mother of Peace.”

Volunteers went back to Mother of Peace to start preparing the ground for a tunnel garden and to draw up plans for the jungle gym that will be renovated.

The blanket outreach saw two groups bless both the vagrants of Amanzimtoti and Durban with food and warmth. “We found lots of people sleeping on the street, and gave them each a blanket and a sandwich,” said Liana.

At Seed of Hope, three classrooms have been painted. The kitchen was renovated and will also be a classroom. This is an ongoing project that will see a library built in the future.

“For Amanzimtoti Cares, we are receiving a daily donation of bread and have had a donation of food for the organisation,” said Liana.

The positive changes being made in the lives of those less fortunate continues to grow. The CommUnity Project is uniting the people of the town through a great cause. To get involved or find out more, visit their Facebook page: The CommUnity Project or visit www.thecommunityproject.co.za.
