CSP’s three-phase beach clean-up netted over 100 bags of litter
Over the three phases, a total of 110 bags of litter have been removed from the local stretch of beach.
CLEAN Surf Project hosted its phase three clean-up on International Coastal Clean Up day last Saturday, 16 September.
Over the three phases, a total of 110 bags of litter have been removed from the local stretch of beach.
“Saturday’s clean up was from Winkle Beach to Illovo Beach’s river,” said Denzil van der Westhuizen. “We filled 50 bags, this brings our total to 110 bags of litter removed. There has been amazing effort made by the community. We’ve also had the Kingsway High School prefects in attendance, setting great examples for the youngsters.”
The first clean up was held on Saturday, 5 August at Winklespruit Beach and rocks. Fire fighters saw the rocks washed down and volunteers left the beach spotless. The second phase took place on Saturday, 24 August where volunteers cleaned from Warner Beach and Illovo Beach, ending at Winklespruit Beach. They were shocked by the amount of rubbish removed from the beach.
Clean Surf Project expressed its gratitude for the fruit, water, gloves and bags that were sponsored by Nomalanga from DSW. The organisation is equally grateful to Cllr Andre Beetge, Romy Wentzel from Sapphire Coast Tourism for their support and Winkle Surf Lifesaving Club for hosting the clean ups.
