13 injured in Umgababa taxi collision

A driver of one of the taxis was entrapped and had to be extricated with the jaws of life.

At least 13 people, including school children, sustained injuries when two taxis collided in Umgababa this morning (Tuesday, 10 October).

When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at about 7.20am, most of the patients were walking around on the scene.

ER24 spokesman, Ineke van Huyssteen said the driver of one of the taxis was entrapped and had to be extricated with the jaws of life.

“It was found that at least 13 people sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.”

ER24, as well as other medical services on scene, transported the patients to nearby hospitals for further medical care.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not known, but SAPS were on scene for further investigations.
