Pitch in for Amanzimtoti River clean-up

Environmentally conscious members of the community are invited to roll up their sleeves and join in the restoration of the once beautiful banks.

A PLANNED clean-up of the Amanzimtoti River and its banks, which borders one side of the Amanzimtoti Sports Centre, will take place on Saturday, 25 November.

Environmentally-conscious members of the community are invited to roll up their sleeves and join in the restoration of the once-beautiful banks.

Masterminds of the clean-up, the Amanzimtoti Cycling Club working with the Amanzimtoti Sports Centre explained that their aim is to remove as much of the litter from the river and banks as possible, so that it doesn’t end up on the beach in the next big storm.

Bags have been organised, but bamboo poles with hooks on the end will prove useful in assisting the many helping hands to remove the litter stuck in the trees. If anyone has such an item, it will be put to good use on clean-up day. Gloves are recommended for hygiene purposes.

The clean-up will kick off at 8am and run until about 11am. The litter that has to be cleaned was carried down by the surging river waters during the 10 October storm.

With the day providing the opportunity to win many prizes, as well as a chance to team build, clean the environment and leave a positive mark, organisers are sure the clean-up will be well supported.
