Off-duty CCPO guard’s vigilance solves two crimes

The homeowner was not home but his neighbour identified the stolen goods.

Smart work from a vigilant off-duty Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) guard netted two housebreakers on Tuesday, 27 February.

CCPO committee member, George Snodey said off-duty guard Hopewell Cele spotted the men walking on the R603 with a lawnmower and gas bottle and called for back-up. CCPO and Blue Security patrol officer, Mbuyiselo ‘Triple M’ Mdunjane and Mbambo Nhlanhla picked up the two men and took them back to a premises in Bonaventura Drive where they had allegedly broken into.

“The homeowner was unfortunately not home but his neighbour identified the stolen goods, and said his lawnmower had also been stolen in December,” said Snodey. “The owner of the recovered stolen property went directly to the police station to open a case.

Their neighbour and his son, who both indicated they would be able to identify the suspects, also headed to the police station to see if they could ID them. They did identify them and fortunately he had opened a case in December, so it was a simple process with the men being charged for two housebreaking incidents.”
