Librarians impart love of reading with youth on World Book Day

Adults, parents and older siblings are encouraged to participate by reading and sharing stories with younger ones.

Amanzimtoti library celebrated World Book Day with Khulakahle Pre-School on Monday, 23 April.

World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading around the world. Established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, it is an one-day festival which is celebrated in over 100 countries all over the globe.

The first-ever World Book Day took place on 23 April 1995, and every year since then, World Book Day falls on the same day. “This year’s theme is ‘Share a Story’ and adults, parents and older siblings are encouraged to participate by reading and sharing stories with younger ones,” said Amanzimtoti librarian, Slie Mosia.

“World Book Day is meant to be the perfect opportunity for parents, teachers and children to join together in appreciation of the world of literature and the life-long pleasure of reading.”
