Illovo River illegal dumper’s identity uncovered
These details were handed over to law enforcement for prosecution.
An illegal dumper has found himself on the wrong side of the law after an investigation revealed his identity.
Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge said a massive pile of refuse was found dumped at the Illovo River picnic site last week. A search of the refuse revealed documents with the Isipingo owner’s details. These details were handed over to law enforcement for prosecution.
“If you see illegal dumping, don’t just leave it – go and investigate. Ninety percent of the time an investigation of the heap of rubbish will lead to the identity of the perpetrator,” said Cllr Beetge. Report illegal dumping via email to kacey.naicker@durban.gov.za.
Please be aware of the legalities of ‘naming and shaming’ people on social media. They’ve not yet pleaded in a court, so if any newspaper or social media platform shows their faces or names them, they’re identifying them as guilty, when they may not have even done any crime. You can only name or identify them after they have pleaded in court – anything else may hamper with a court case.
