RUNNERS, walkers and surf-skiers are invited to take part in the iconic Winkle-Toti-Winkle race which takes place on Sunday, 16 December from Winklespruit Beach, starting at 8am.
The day offers a 12,6km surf-ski race, a 12,6km long beach run and a 4,8km beach run/walk.
The Winkle-Toti-Winkle is Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year and promises an impressive turnout. The whole idea of the race is to see who finishes first among the paddlers or the runners. The much-loved annual event works to raise funds for WSLC, enabling local nippers and lifeguards to travel to compete.
The surf ski race and long beach run takes place from Winkle Beach to Toti Beach and back. The shorter beach run/walk distances from Winkle Beach to Warnadoone Rocks and back.
The beach run and walk is open to anybody, however, the surf skiing event is limited to lifesaving members as well as those of the South African Canoe Union because of the risks involved. This annual sea and beach event held in high tourist season works well to showcase the beauty of the Sapphire Coast.
Entrance fees are charged at R100 for participants aged 14 and older, and R50 for U14s. Registration will be at the Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club on Saturday, 16 December at 7am.
