A highlands explosion

Exhibitors can collect their tickets from the Riverside Road and Lords and Legends entrance from 5am.

All roads lead to the Amanzimtoti Sports Centre this Saturday, 27 April when Aman-zimtoti’s spectacular showcase, the Highland Gathering, explodes for the 56th edition. This year’s gathering, which is hosted by Amanzimtoti Lions Club, will feature 25 bands from around South Africa with up to 25 pipers per band.

Included on the panel is a visiting judge from Scotland, Jim Campbell. Jim has many years of experience playing in successful pipe bands, as well as judging around the world. He served the best part of two decades in grade one and two with Bucksburn and the District Pipe Band, winning many championships with Bucksburn. Later, leading the 47th Culter Boys Brigade Pipe Band, he won multiple major championships, including World Championships and Champion of Champions titles.

Amanzimtoti Lions can be chuffed to have such an honourable member of the piping elite gracing Hutchison Park this weekend. “The weather looks like it will behave itself and we are set for another bumper gathering,” said Lion Carol Botha.

Parking at the Amanzimtoti Sports Centre on the day is managed by the ASC and all funds raised from this go back into the park for maintenance and facilities. The cost is R20 per vehicle and parking will again be via the Hutchison Road (Amanzimtoti Rugby Club) entrance onto the oval and then the Riverside Road entrance onto the Toti two field and parking area.
