Amanzimtoti dancers have got all the right moves
Nine of the 10 gold medallists were awarded bursaries to study ballet in New York.
Local dancers pirouetted their way to 10 gold medals, nine double silver medals, 10 silver double distinctions and three silver distinctions at the annual American Performance Awards held at the NG Kerk in Amanzimtoti in December.
Nine of the 10 gold medallists were awarded bursaries to study ballet in New York during the summer school. The 25 entries, ranging in age from six to 50-years-old, are members the Wendy Reinhardt Academy of Dance. “These results are evidence of the students’ hard work and perseverance in what has been a very challenging year. Well done to them for adapting to very tough circumstances,” she said.
Wendy’s high level of teaching was recognised this week when the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing awarded her the opportunity to open a dance academy in Namaqualand, where she will teach ballet and modern dancing in Springbok. “I will be away for a few months and will be the artistic director. I’m starting off with more than 40 students of more senior ages, and hopefully this number will grow.”
