[WATCH] – Doon Heights cellist hits all the right notes

Chris appeals to the public to vote or donate for his advancement in the competition.

Doon Heights cellist, Chris Njapha, is excited to participate in the World Vision music contest.  He will compete against other talented youngsters from around the world.  The contest is to promote classical music of different genres, making it popular to search for talented young artists and to ensure their musical growth. It is a dynamic online platform where young musicians and interested audiences can communicate to develop and support musical activities online. Chris appeals to the public to vote or donate for his advancement in the competition.

“I understand that not everyone has the means to donate, but if you have a phone and internet access you can vote. It’s super easy. There are two big reasons for me entering this competition. It will help fund my studies and to give me international exposure, which can lead to career development,” said the talented young man.

He recently completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the Stellenbosch University and has been accepted to continue his studies with a Master of Music degree at the world-renowned Manhattan School of Music in New York.

After learning about the instrument during a Grade 9 lesson, the former Amanzimtoti High School learner was instantly captivated.  Chris began his formal music lessons when he was 15-years-old, first with the violin for two years, then switching to the cello. Having made unusually fast progress, in Stellenbosch he participated in master classes with world-renowned cellists David Cohen, Alexander Buzlov and Norman Fischer.
