Celebrating Clean Up and Recycle Week with Clean Surf
A clean-up will take place at Umbogintwini Beach from 09:00 to 11:00.

Clean Surf Project encourages the community, schools and businesses to participate in Clean Up and Recycle Week which ends on Saturday, September 18.
“The recent rainfall has transported litter from upstream down to the sea and into the marine environment which has been clearly visible especially at Umbogintwini River as well as Amanzimtoti River and Lagoon. These two rivers and catchments were defined to mark the project area of Inkwazi Isu, an environmental programme launched in March and September 2020. With plastic bottles, tubs, bags, chip packets, nappies, polystyrene, masks and the list goes on being caught in waterways and scattered along the beachfront.”
National Recycling Day is held on Friday, September 17, and International Coastal Clean-Up Day takes place on Saturday, September 18. A clean-up will take place at Umbogintwini Beach from 09:00 to 11:00. Attendees should bring along water, shoes, gloves, sunscreen and a mask. Parking is available at the Amanzimtoti Country Club situated at 1 Golf Course Road, Athlone Park.
“Education and Waste Management Systems within communities living close to riverbanks are key factors to protect the source of all life. Water is the most important liquid in our ecosystem.
