Beloved reverend murdered, Amanzimtoti community mourns

The NG Kerk Suidkus held a candlelight tribute in memory of one of their own, Rev Liezel de Jager, whose body was found by her husband on Wednesday, October 13.
The community gathered in their numbers to lay flowers and light candles on Wednesday, October 13. Tributes have also poured in on social media following her death.
“Thank you for everyone’s prayers and support. Please let’s keep Werner and the children in your prayers,” said the NG Kerk Suidkus in a post on Facebook.

According to the communications officer of Amanzimtoti SAPS, Captain Charlene van der Spuy, de Jager is believed to have been attacked in her yard when she returned home after a morning jog.
“She left the house at about 04:00. Her body was discovered next to the house by her husband,” said Van der Spuy.
A case of murder is being investigated by local SAPS.
