#50YearsAgo Parents and learners build school hall
Schools form the cornerstone of our community.
ILLOVO Primary School was opened in 1951. Mr Sydney Keerath became the acting principal and the first teachers were Mr Naicker and Mr Regnath.
Mr RG Pillay was appointed headmaster in July of that year and stayed until 1963, when he was promoted to supervisor of Indian schools.
The school hall was built in the 1950s by the parents of the pupils at the time. Further extensions to the school were made possible by regular film shows held in the hall.
The Pearce family and Illovo Sugar Estates also provided funds for the development of the school.
