Dawn Gounden on Renegades Search and Rescue said the remains of an African girl estimated to be around seven-years-old were found in the vegetation at Teal Place.
“This discovery has sparked a collaborative effort between the police, the public, and Renegades Search and Rescue to solve the mystery surrounding her identity and provide the necessary support. We plea for assistance from the public to locate her family,” said Gounden.
At first, it was thought that the body could be that of six-year-old Zekethelo Luphalule who was last seen on June 20 in Malukazi near Lotus Park, but it has been confirmed it is not hers.
Police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, said the case of murder was opened at the Isipingo police station and it is under investigation.
“Reports indicate that a decomposing body of an unknown child was found in the bush with what looked like burn marks,” said Ngcobo.
Anyone who can provide information that might assist the police to solve the case can call the Isipingo police station on 031 913 3409, or Gounden on 074 712 5855.
