Electricity to be restored in Amanzimtoti
A large area of Amanzimtoti has been without power since yesterday when the Dan Pienaar substation exploded during the heavy rain.
POWER to Amanzimtoti Berea areas supplied from the Dan Pienaar substation will be restored by 17:00 today (October 21).

This comes after the substation caught fire and exploded during the heavy rain on October 20, leaving scores of residents in darkness.
Councillor André Beetge said technicians installed a new substation on the same day, but after two test failures, a decision was made to replace the entire unit with another as opposed to wasting any more time to determine the fault.
“A new unit has been placed in position, and technicians on-site are positive that they should have power restored before 17:00 today,” said Beetge.

While the technicians work, residents are requested to switch off geysers and other power-demanding appliances until power is restored.
