According to information received from ward 97 councillor André Beetge, the body of the, as yet unidentified, teenager has not yet been recovered.

Beetge said he received reports that the boy went swimming with a group of about 30 friends when the tide pulled him in.

“This is just the latest of six drownings that occurred in the city in the past week. Once again people are reminded not to swim at unprotected beaches that are not designated for bathing. Umnini is merely a patrol beach with no lifeguards deployed.”

The next of kin has not yet been informed.
