THE transformation of KwaMakhutha Hostel into a family-friendly community residential unit (CRU) is progressing well, as highlighted during a site visit by Themba Mvubu, the chairperson of eThekwini Municipality’s Human Settlements, Engineering, and Transport Authority Committee, on November 18.

The overall project, which includes various urban renewal initiatives, is valued at over R111 million.
Mvubu shared that the contractor was nearing the completion of two of the nine planned blocks on the ground floor.
“I am particularly pleased with the progress at the KwaMakhutha CRU. The contractor is expected to hand over the project to the municipality by the end of November,” he said.
In addition to the KwaMakhutha project, two other CRU developments are underway in Wentworth and Umlazi. Mvubu emphasised that the municipality was making good progress on all three projects, with only a few minor setbacks.
