THREE SUSPECTS are still at large after they assaulted and robbed a 72-year-old Athlone Park resident of his car on August 7.
Police spokesperson Captain Charlene van der Spuy said that the victim was working in his garden before the incident took place. A case of house robbery is being investigated by Amanzimtoti detectives.

“One of the suspects grabbed the victim by his neck, covered his mouth and told him not to scream. The same suspect forced the victim to the ground and started assaulting him. The other two suspects demanded his car keys. The suspects fled with his vehicle,” said Van der Spuy.
Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) said in a social media post that the incident occurred around midday.
“The suspects also robbed a garden service of their equipment as they were leaving,” alleged CCPO in the post.
Residents were fuming and took to the Facebook comment section to air their frustrations.
Christine Pillay said, “I won’t live in a stand-alone house ever again. I stayed in Athlone Park and was broken into on our second day living there.”
Paula Viljoen echoed similar sentiments: “We lived in Athlone Park for 55 years. Due to being attacked on various occasions, the house has been sold.”
