Local soccer star to play in America
A burgeoning soccer talent from Amanzimtoti recently travelled abroad to live and play soccer in the USA.
WITH DOZENS of accolades, awards, certificates and trophies, it is no wonder former Toti United Football Club star, Reese Davids, 18, recently received a scholarship to pay soccer in the US for a community college in Kansas.

Having recently matriculated from Amanzimtoti High School, she achieved sports girl of the year twice in a row as well as Victrix Ludorum for the school’s inter-house athletics. Reese is as multi-talented as they come, captaining the first teams for soccer, netball and touch rugby, and participated in the Engen Knockout Challenge.

She said that since she could crawl, she has been playing sports, with soccer always reigning as her first choice.
“Soccer is a game I enjoy and play with my heart. It is also a significant part of my family’s legacy and I want to continue that. With every day that goes by, I always try to improve myself mentally, physically and emotionally. Soccer is not always a game of physicality, but being mentally and emotionally strong, and having a good mindset. Every day I train, I hope to be 1% better, because eventually, those days will add up,” said Reese.
She said that early mornings and late nights, tough losses, overcoming slumps, losses of confidence and injuries have all been a part of her journey, and she knows she will continue to grow from those building blocks of success.
“The end goal is to represent my family, the Davids family name and my country on a larger platform. Wherever those opportunities sprout from, I walk in God’s will and His plan for me,” said Reese.

Reese said that her experience at Pratt Community College has been good so far, and she hopes to form warm, close relationships with her classmates and coaches. She added that her teammates are an amazing bunch. “Even though we are all from across the world, we are united by playing the sport we love,” she said.
