Heavy thunderstorm warning issued for eThekwini

Heavy downpours may exceed 100mm in some areas. Residents are advised to avoid travel if possible.

A YELLOW Level 4 weather warning has been issued for today (January 12) for disruptive rain and severe thunderstorms in the eThekwini Metro and other areas of the province.

The South African Weather Service said heavy downpours, exceeding 100mm in some areas, can be expected, and they may lead to widespread flooding in low-lying areas, closure of bridges and major roads, and damage to settlements and structures.

The public is urged to heed the following advice:

• Avoid travel if possible
• Do not cross flooded roads or bridges
• Monitor official South African Weather Service updates on social media
