Disruptive protests erupt on the South Coast

Traffic in both directions was affected, leading to motorists being instructed to turn back for safety reasons.

PROTESTS in Umbumbulu and the Old airport have led to road closures and warnings being issued to motorists today (June 25).

In Umbumbulu, a community protest has led to the closure of the R603, a road which connects Winklespruit and Camperdown.

A police officer who is not authorised to speak to the media, said the community was protesting the extended electricity outage in the area. Traffic in both directions was affected, leading to motorists being instructed to turn back for safety reasons.

At the old airport in Isipingo, high activity and disruptions were reported in the area. It was not clear the reason behind the protest at the time of publishing.

Motorists have been urged to remain vigilant and seek alternative routes.
