Scottburgh to Illovo gunfight chase ends with dead suspect
A criminal gang committed a house robbery and engaged in a shoot-out with police before fleeing north towards Umgababa in a Suzuki sedan.
A high-speed car chase and shoot-out late at night on August 31 that began in Scottburgh and ended in Lovu township left one suspected thief dead after the police fought fire with fire.

According to available information, a criminal gang had committed a house robbery before fleeing north towards Umgababa in a Suzuki sedan.
After the vehicle’s description was shared on the network, officers spotted the car in transit. The culprits, however, allegedly opened fire on the officers and sped off, crashing into several nearby cars.
The shoot-out continued during the chase until the getaway car pulled onto a gravel road and stopped.
When officers approached the vehicle, they discovered that one suspect was dead while his accomplices had fled into the surrounding area.
A firearm was recovered at the scene.
