Fuel price predictions point to painful October
Fuel prices in October are expected to surge once more, after an already steep increase across the board this month.
A PAINFUL surge in fuel prices is expected in October, piling a second month of increases on South African motorists, with the most recent figures from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) showing recoveries deep in the red, giving motorists no sign of relief.

This comes amid an economy that is worse for wear and conflict between the US and Iran showing no sign of slowing down.
What prices motorists can expect
- Petrol 93: increase of R1.81 per litre.
- Petrol 95: increase of R1.93 per litre.
- Diesel 0.05% (wholesale): increase of R1.73 per litre.
- Diesel 0.005% (wholesale): increase of R2.03 per litre.
- Illuminating paraffin: increase of R2.08 per litre.
Before wars in both Iran and Ukraine, the steepest diesel price was R25.53 in July 2022.
