WHEN information was received through the CCPO radio network on July 23 regarding a white Volkswagen Polo sedan allegedly used to commit cellphone thefts in the Arbour Crossing, Amanzimtoti vicinity, security companies mobilised to search for the vehicle.

ET Rapid Response’s Tony Lokker explained that while conducting proactive patrols, officers located the suspect vehicle in the Winklespruit area.

“The vehicle was discreetly monitored while our tactical response teams (TRT) responded. The suspects noticed additional vehicles closing in on them and they sped away. Showing total disregard for road safety, they recklessly tried to evade our TRT units,” said Lokker.

Lokker added that following a tense chase into the Felekisi area, the suspects’ vehicle lost control and collided into a boundary wall of a residential property, narrowly missing pedestrian children.

Two suspects were apprehended and a third suspect fled on foot. One suspect escaped and a subsequent search proved unsuccessful. Multiple cellphones were recovered inside the suspects’ vehicle.

The suspects were detained at KwaMakhutha SAPS for further investigation.
