On November 23, 2025, Nhlalwenhle was walking home from the tuckshop with some relatives, who walked with her part of the way. She was left not far from her home, with the expectation that she would make it home safely.
After she failed to arrive home, an extensive search was conducted, but despite vast search efforts, initial searches led to no immediate success.
In January, a traditional healer tipped the police off that Mbili had approached him for help as he was apparently being tormented by nightmares involving a child he had allegedly killed.
After he was arrested, Mbili allegedly confessed that he had killed Nhlalwenhle, and he took the police to the spot where he had disposed of her remains. Mbili is also related to Nhlalwenhle’s family.
He is facing charges of murder and kidnapping.
