Man dies after car plunges into pool in Athlone Park

Circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, however, this is a developing story.

AT about 11:00 this morning, September 2, a car plunged into a swimming pool at 2 Monmouth Road in Athlone Park, leaving the male driver dead.

According to property owner Terrence Govender, he was sitting in his lounge when he heard a loud noise. He went to check outside his front gate, before realising his back garden’s retaining wall was broken and a car was in his swimming pool.

According to onlookers and neighbours, the car must have hit the nearby curb which forced the car to flip onto its side before sliding through the wall and into the pool.

All emergency services are on the scene.
