WITH the number of confirmed rabies cases on the South Coast on the rise, Amanzimtoti SPCA and Scottburgh-based non-profit organisation, 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue, set up a vaccination station in Malundi Township on Saturday, September 3. Nicky Koekemoer of 4 Paws said 130 dogs and cats were vaccinated and dewormed.

“We have had far more confirmed-positive rabies cases in the immediate area than we would have dreamed of, which is why this outreach was set up. We set up the station at 08:00, and people were already queueing with their animals, so we started vaccinating at 09:00. We also supplied Hills Science dog food to all dog owners,” said Nicky.

She extended special thanks to Amanzimtoti SPCA for supplying the rabies vaccines, dewormers and the necessary tools to perform the vaccinations; Luke Keyser, Delani Ncwengi and Sibo Ncube for keeping the animals under control; Jo Laughton from Seadoone Vet and volunteer Kaylie Smith for giving up their Saturday and assisting; and to Scott Vet for providing de-flea.
