In their haste to flee, the thieves left behind their toolbox.

ON September 3, thieves ran for their lives after they were pounced upon while stripping a stolen car in KwaMakhutha. The Community Crime Prevention Organisation Amanzimtoti (CCPO) and Doonside Neighbourhood Watch members apprehended the thieves who allegedly stole the vehicle.

George Snodey of the CCPO said one of the supervisors, Isaac Dindi, received a call about a suspected stolen vehicle that was being stripped in Makhutha.

“Isaac proceeded to the location with the assistance of the neighbourhood watch guys as other security parties were busy at the time. They arrived at the location while the suspects were still busy stripping the vehicle, and the suspects scrambled away, leaving a big tool box behind,” said Snodey.

The dismantled vehicle matched the description of a car stolen from the Greenwood Park area. Also discovered on the scene was the cab of a Hyundai H100. The H100 was confirmed to have been stolen in July in Chatsworth.

The police were notified, and the vehicle and cab were collected for further investigation.

The tools and car parts left behind by the fleeing suspects.
