Schools in Amanzimtoti perform at choir festival

The theme of this year's choir festival was 'joy of travel', to highlight its return after the Covid-19 lockdown.

DOON Heights Primary School hosted the Festival of Song on October 15, which saw school choirs in Amanzimtoti each performing well-rehearsed songs and dance.

The choir festival used to be hosted by a different school each year, however, each school now has a permanent event to do each year. Doon Heights has therefore been tasked with choir festivals.

The theme of this year’s festival was ‘joy of travel’, to highlight the return of travelling once again after lockdown.

The entrance fee was any donation of pet food. “The decision to have a donation at the gate entrance came from many years ago. Instead of money, rather a service to the Toti SPCA by way of donating pet food,” said Amanzimtoti Primary School’s choir teacher, Carol Chiazzari.

She added that the day was a huge success. “It was wonderful to be able to gather as a community to showcase all the beautiful choirs from our local schools. Many parents and supporters turned up for the event and showed their appreciation. All schools gave of their very best and were a credit to their schools,” said Chiazzari.

She said the school performed exceptionally well, they were polished and very entertaining.
