Amanzimtoti SAPS spokesperson Captain Charlene van der Spuy said the robbery happened at 19:10 after the men forced their way into the store. She also said the group had lookouts posted at three different points around the mall in wait for responders.

“At least three of the suspects produced firearms. An assortment of high-value watches, perfumes and sunglasses was taken. The value of the stolen items is unknown,” said Van der Spuy. No shots were fired, and no one was injured.

She said video footage showed that the suspects were in and out within six minutes. They fled in three getaway cars, a blue Renault Triber, a silver Kia Rio, and a grey Polo hatch, which were parked in the parking area close to the entrance. A case of business robbery was opened, and the investigation is ongoing.

The store was robbed in May 2022, and R20 000 was taken, along with expensive perfumes and sunglasses.

A still picture from a surveillance video shows the robbers in their getaway cars.
