Amanzimtoti Civic Centre gardens not for motorbike riders [LETTER]

There is a designated area on the north side of the river for motorbike riders.

EDITOR – Our Parks Department has spent many hours cutting and attending to the gardens around the Amanzimtoti Civic Centre.

Of late, motorbike riders have seen fit to use the lawns for a test track for their bikes on the weekend. They spend hours riding around and around on the lovely grass, despite seeing no entry signs at the entry points to the lawns.

The tyres cut tracks in the soft surface, and the whining motors disturb the peace of the complexes overlooking the gardens.

There was an issue in the past over a similar situation. Our parks department zoned the grass area and park on the north side of the river for use by motorbike enthusiasts. Therefore they should be using that section without causing damage to the civic gardens or disturbing the residences in Riverside Road.”

Our councillor has advised for us to call out the metro police should the bikers persist. The situation will get worse with more pals arriving if left unchecked.
