Schools close early in KZN due to weather warning

For some schools in the province, the first day back to school has been affected negatively due to the rainy weather.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has released a statement with a directive for schools to release learners and officials early due to severe weather warnings issued by the South African Weather Services (SAWS).

This comes after the province experienced various challenges in recent weeks as a result of flooding.

“A number of communities have been seriously affected, and some lost family members. Schools have been no exception in this regard,” read the statement.

According to the weather services, the province is likely to experience heavy rainfall this afternoon, (January 17) which is the learners’ first day of school.
