Help Seed of Hope revamp playground
Seed of Hope aims to fundraise R60 000 to replace the old and damaged wooden playground equipment with safer plastic equipment for the young children to play on.
SEED of Hope Community Development’s latest project, which got underway for Mandela Month, is to raise funds to revamp its outside play area.
With a vision of restoring communities through restored individuals, the organisation is dedicated to providing a safe and engaging environment for children.

Heather Liebenberg, chairperson of Seed of Hope, said, “The current wooden playground equipment, which has been in use for about 15 years, has become unsafe due to wear and tear. We are hoping to purchase hard plastic equipment, which will be more durable and safer for the children. The cost is around R60 000, and so far, we’ve raised about R6 000 from a generous business and a church.”
The children are part of the Simunye after-school programme, which supports between 50 to 100 learners from grades R to 7 on a daily basis.
The programme includes academic support, farming and computer skills training, participation in arts and crafts activities, reading, singing, dancing and more.
“While the older children enjoy playing sports, the younger ones loved being able to swing and climb up the playground equipment,” said Liebenberg.
In an ongoing effort to explore income-generating initiatives, Liebenberg said they are looking at starting a coffee shop and a laundromat to assist those with water issues. “Monthly markets are also held to support the community and our organisation,” she said.
