Brain food: 100kg peanut butter donation feeds future leaders
An appeal in the SUN for donations of peanut butter to feed hungry matrics led to a donation of 100kg of peanut butter and instant porridge.
ABOUT 100kg of peanut butter and instant porridge was donated to The Domino Foundation’s nutrition programme that supports learners in Amanzimtoti and surrounds.
Domino’s communications officer, Rowan Phillips, said an article by the SUN appealing for donations of peanut butter to feed hungry matrics in four south Durban schools, caught the attention of the marketing team of Yum Yum, an RCL Foods brand.

“They saw an opportunity for the company to take credible action to support community well-being. In the mission to support food security and help make healthy and sustainable living a reality, the brand was keen to partner with our nutrition programme to ensure the Grade 12s keep in top mental shape in the run-up to their final exams,” he said.
Cheryl Dann, leader of the nutrition programme in the Toti area, received almost 100kg of peanut butter for the programme’s kitchens based at Kingsway Church International (KCi) in Doonside, along with more than 100kg of instant porridge.
“Our matrics will be well fed, and we have lots of little pre-schoolers in the early childhood development centres we partner with who will benefit from warm bowls of the nutritional and tasty porridge,” she said.
With exams in full swing, Cheryl’s team of volunteers will keep the supply of sandwiches going until November 17. Thereafter, the nutrition programme will continue the production line to ensure that future matrics, as well as toddlers in crèches and learners in primary schools, get a healthy, nutritious boost each day.
Cheryl said, “RCL Foods’ donation will be a great help in fulfilling our task, and we welcome enquiries from anyone interested in working with us to see our young people have a future filled with hope.”
