According to councillor Andre Beetge, the vandalism caused various challenges at the Kingsway 1 pump station (Somerset way up from Baggies Beach) and Kingsway 2 (near the subway) pump station.
“The phase fault was addressed and Ellcock Road mini pump station was declared fully operational. Beach management continued with monitoring rivers and dilution to the point where Winklespruit that was closed as a precautionary measure, was reopened at 14:30,” Beetge said.
He added that all beaches were jam-packed with access control into the Beach Road node in Amanzimtoti being controlled through the permit system and Winklespruit was a one out, one in scenario.
Although extremely busy and taking its toll on officials, no incidents have thus far been reported.
