Police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, said Mduduzi Masuku (35), appeared in the Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court two days later to face a charge of killing Bongekile Mkhize (32), by hacking her to death with a panga. It is alleged that besides Masuku, the deceased had found a new boyfriend who would regularly phone Masuku and mock the size of his manhood.
On the day Mkhize died, a source told the SUN that she had gone out with her other boyfriend and when he brought her back to her home in the early hours of Sunday, Masuku was allegedly hiding in the yard, waiting.
“As the passenger side door opened, Masuku leapt from where he was hiding and dragged his girlfriend out. He started hacking her with the panga and her screams alerted people who were indoors, including her 12-year-old son. They opened the door and witnessed what was happening but retreated indoors for safety reasons. The driver of the car fled on foot. They said as he was hacking her, he was asking how her new boyfriend knew the size of his private part as he had never undressed in front of him,” said the source.
Masuku later handed himself to the Folweni Police Station and admitted to what he had done, leading to his arrest. When he appeared in court on January 7, he indicated that he did not need an attorney as he intended to plead guilty.
He was remanded back into custody and will make another appearance in the same court on January 15 to make a bail application.
