Sassa beneficiary card applications go smoothly in Amanzimtoti

Scores of elderly residents and Sassa beneficiaries took advantage of the card replacement workshop and were pleased with the efficiency thereof.

A SASSA pensioner who went to Amanzimtoti Civic Centre for assistance was amazed at how smoothly everything went when Nedbank, Absa, and FNB helped pensioners open new bank accounts.

Dennii Dorning was one of the scores of pensioners who opened new bank accounts where their pensions would be paid before the March 20 cut-off date. Sassa officials were also on hand to verify the identities of the beneficiaries and help to transfer the payments from the Sassa card system to the bank account system.

“Everything went smoothly and the bank assistants were so friendly and helpful. When we got to the Sassa table they went out of their way to assist us,” said Dorning.

She thanked councillor André Beetge for organising the banks and Sassa to assist the elderly as the deadline looms.

Sassa’s regional executive manager for KZN, Thamo Mzobe, visited the Isipingo card replacement site on March 7, and monitored the process. She emphasised that the March 20 deadline marks the date when the Sassa gold cards will stop working, not the last day to apply for the new card.

After the cut-off date, beneficiaries will still be able to apply for and receive their Postbank black cards or cards from other banking institutions.
