Cars by the River comes to Toti this Sunday

One of the Cars by the River organisers gives a sneak peak of one of the cars hitting the streets of Amanzimtoti this weekend.

ALL CYLINDERS are firing as clocks count down to Cars by the River, hosted by the Lions Club of Amanzimtoti, on September 7.

One of the cars that visitors can look forward to seeing at the Amanzimtoti Civic Centre is an immaculate 1996 Toyota Celica generation five. It packs a powerful punch, fitted with a 2.0 litre Toyota Camry motor.

This car can be seen during this weekend’s car show.

One of the show’s car enthusiast co-ordinators, Barry Liggins, explained that the Celica was not exported to South Africa at the time, and only a handful were imported.

Barry Liggins took it out for a spin.

“This was imported by Toyota. The car was just sitting in the garage for two years. After its battery was replaced by the new owner, some minor fixes were done before it made its way back on the road,” said Liggins.

1996 Toyota Celica. This particular model is a generation five.

Its inline-four engine produces 108 kilowatts and with a curb weight of only around 1100kg, the Celica is an agile machine. While many of its competitors during its time of production took on more boxy shapes, the Celica’s smooth, curvy detailing proved ahead of its time.

The smooth lines and curves were a new approach during its time of production.

He said that there are loads of classic and modern masterpieces of engineering lying dormant in garages.

Cars by the River is set to feature over 200 cars, from vintage V8s to modern sports cars. If you would like to show off your wheels for free, WhatsApp 072 767 7833 or email secretary@totilions.org.
