Check the dates of South Coast’s 5-day water interruption

The interruption is due to a major leak that has been identified on a 1 000mm diameter steel gravity supply pipeline to a major reservoir.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has announced an interruption of water supply that will start on October 13, in areas supplied through the Woodlands 3 and 4 reservoir.

In a statement released today (October 12), eThekwini said the interruption is due to a major leak that has been identified on a 1 000mm diameter steel gravity supply pipeline to the affected reservoir.

“Operations teams from the city’s Water Service Directorate are currently on site isolating the main pipeline. This is in preparation to scour the pipeline for excavation to expose the leak in the pipeline for repair. During this process, water supply to the Woodlands 3 and 4 reservoirs will be severely constrained, which will affect supply to downstream dependent reservoirs and supply zones,” it said.

While repair work is expected to be completed on the morning of October 13, the recovery of the system is expected to take up to five days to fully stabilise.

Affected southern reservoirs:

Prospecton Industrial, Reunion, Isipingo Beach, Isipingo Rail, Malaba Hills, Ekuhlengeni Psychiatric hospital, AECI, Ezimbokodweni, Southgate Industrial Park, Athlone Park, Lewis Drive, Almond Road, Doonside, Illovo Beach, Panorama, Umgababa, Mgobhozini, Mfume, Kwasoni, Lovu, Bhekulwandle, KwaMakhutha, Adams K1 and K2, Umnini, Umkomaas, and Craigeburn.
