Mayor spreads Mandela Day joy at Mother of Peace
Mother of Peace currently provides care for 58 children aged three to 21.
THE mayor of the eThekwini Municipality, Cyril Xaba, spent Mandela Day on July 18 at Mother of Peace in Lower Illovo, where he spent time with the facility’s vulnerable children.

The orphanage provides care for 58 children aged three to 21. Mother of Peace is a registered NPO that provides a safe family environment for orphans, and vulnerable and abused children.
Xaba dedicated his 67 minutes of service by handing over donated items, including non-perishable food, children’s clothing, and gardening tools.
These donations were generously contributed by municipal staff, various municipal stakeholders, and external partners in support of the initiative.
During a walkabout at the orphanage, the mayor was impressed with a mushroom cultivation project, a poultry farm, and a vegetable garden being managed by the organisation.
