Tidy Towns turns attention to Doonside
Eco warriors took on a clean-up project in Doonside, cleaning up litter, overgrown vegetation and building rubble.
WHEN residents of Doonside reached out for help from NPO Tidy Towns Amanzimtoti, the eco-warriors wasted no time stepping in to tackle longstanding challenges along Leslie Way and Queens Terrace on August 20.

Romy Wenzel explained that the narrow road and adjoining staircases in the area had become difficult to access due to litter, overgrown vegetation and building rubble. The project is being undertaken in phases and recent work has seen the use of an excavator to level the ramp leading up towards the staircase.
“A special thank you goes out to the municipal teams who assisted with litter collection, vegetation removal and the removal of dumped building rubble, helping restore access and improve safety around the area,” said Wenzel.
The clean-up was made possible through partnerships, teamwork and networking, with support from various businesses, DSW Kingsburgh and local law enforcement.
“Now, we need the community to help us keep it clean, green and safe. Every project is made possible through partnerships, donations and community support,” said Wenzel.

She encouraged community members to donate to Tidy Towns Amanzimtoti’s cause, pledging R20 at either of its two paystations, Seabreeze Hardware or Clearwaters Spur.

Upcoming project
Right in the middle of Heritage Month, Tidy Towns will be litter-picking, painting concrete bollards and cleaning up the area at Ilanda Wilds on September 12 from 09:00 until 12:00. The NPO is calling on the community to join the project.
Tidy Towns is also in need of a new plaque for the King Shaka rock, equipment to open the pathway, refreshments for volunteers, and resources like signposts and benches. If your business can assist, contact 083 733 6468.
