AS THE country celebrates Women’s Month, a young female officer is carving out her career following her recent appointment to the SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory in Amanzimtoti, where she works as a ballistic analyst.

Warrant Officer Sinazo Zwane (29) holds a BSc in biochemistry and chemistry, and she joined the police service in 2022. She completed her basic police training at the Mthatha SAPS Academy, marking the beginning of what would become an inspiring journey of service, professional development and continuous learning.

After completing her basic police training, she was placed at the Inanda police station, where she served as a Youth Crime Prevention Desk co-ordinator and a Schools co-ordinator.

In her role, Zwane applies scientific knowledge and analytical skills to assist investigations involving firearms and other violent crimes. She compiles her findings into Section 212 affidavits and provides expert testimony in court.

The appointment allowed her to work closely with communities when conducting crime awareness programmes, educating learners about sexual offences, gender-based violence and femicide, bullying, gangsterism, dangerous weapons, substance abuse and general crime prevention and safety.

Provincial police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda, said Zwane’s dedication to community service did not go unnoticed.

“As South Africa celebrates Women’s Month, her journey serves as an inspiration to young women in policing and beyond. She has already demonstrated that a career in law enforcement can evolve in many directions, from engaging with communities and protecting children to applying scientific expertise in the pursuit of justice,” said Netshiunda.

He added that Zwane’s story is not simply one of promotion, but a testament to ambition, resilience, education and an unwavering commitment to making a difference.
